Hobbing is the most common method of cutting gear teeth. Spur, helical,
and worm gears can be generated using this method. Herringbone gears can
also be formed if the apex groove is large enough for the cutter.
External straight and involute splines can also be formed using this process.
The hob is a series of rotating cutters that are arranged in a spiral
around an arbor to generate gear teeth in a blank. NAMCO's hobbing capabilities
are quite extensive. We are able to cut gears from 0.5"-100" (10mm-2500mm) in diameter.
